Women Shaping Spaces
Exploring the relationship between women, everyday life, and the spaces we inhabit.
Women Shaping Spaces designs, advises, and collects practices exploring how urban nature, feminine ecologies, spaces for transition, micro-communities, and therapeutic architecture can nurture creative, inclusive, poetic, and resilient environments. These spaces can support women through rites of passage and across thresholds — from the household to the community to the city.
Through participatory workshops, Women Shaping Spaces explores the relationship between women and the spaces we live, work, and move through. Women are invited to reflect on their everyday spatial experiences, make their needs visible, and imagine environments that better support their wellbeing, aspirations, and personal development.
Combining architectural thinking, creative exercises, participatory mapping, and collective reflection, the workshops investigate how our built environment shapes our daily lives — and how we can actively shape it in return.
Workshop themes
Mapping Women's Everyday Lives — Exploring daily routes, routines, places of belonging, and spaces where women feel comfortable, supported, or excluded.
Understanding Needs Across Life Stages — Reflecting on how women's spatial needs evolve through different life stages, from puberty and pregnancy to postpartum, perimenopause, and menopause.
Spaces That Support Our Goals — Identifying personal needs and aspirations and exploring how homes, workplaces, and public spaces can better support them.
Reimagining Women's Spaces — Imagining more inclusive, caring, and empowering environments through creative exercises, collaborative mapping, and collective reflection.
Spaces for Transition and Connection — Exploring how architecture, urban nature, and micro-communities can create supportive environments for periods of change, transformation, and new beginnings.
The workshops are designed for communities, organisations, and networks interested in female empowerment, wellbeing, spatial justice, participation, and more inclusive ways of shaping our built environment.
From individual experiences to shared knowledge, from personal needs to collective possibilities — Women Shaping Spaces envisions environments in which women can feel supported, connected, and empowered to shape their worlds.
